Case Study: 7 Ton TRSG Crane + Runway

Project Overview

The Case Study: 7 Ton TRSG + Runway project involved the manufacturing and installation of a crane system with a 7-ton lifting capacity along with the construction of a runway. The project aimed to provide the client with a safe and efficient solution for handling mechanical repairs on large equipment. The specific tasks included the installation of existing Corbel stiffener plates before the runway installation and a unique bridge beam design using a wide flange beam attached perpendicularly to the top of the crane beam

Challenges Faced

The project encountered several challenges throughout its execution. One of the main challenges was that the end of the runways protruded into the office firewall. To overcome this, the team decided to install the runways prior to the firewall installation, ensuring that the project could proceed smoothly without compromising safety or regulatory requirements. Additionally, there was an unexpected obstacles where large heavy duty equipment in the facility needed to be moved before the installation. The field supervisor effectively communicated this issue to the company representative beforehand, allowing for the necessary arrangements to be made.

Team Structure and Collaboration

The project team consisted of three key roles. The field supervisor played a crucial role in determining the safest and most effective approach for installing the crane system. The field install tech worked closely with the supervisor to carry out the installation process efficiently and safely. Furthermore, the field electrician was responsible for completing all electrical connections and commissioning the system in accordance with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) guidelines. The team collaborated effectively by following the direction of the field supervisor during the installation process and relying on the expertise of the field electrician during commissioning.

Solutions and Innovations

Although no specific innovative approaches were implemented in this project, the use of a wide flange beam to re-enforce the bridge beam proved to be a cost-saving measure compared to a box beam structure. This solution contributed to both cost and time savings for the client, providing an effective and efficient solution within their budget.

Results and Impact

The project successfully met the client’s expectations. The timeline was adhered to, ensuring timely delivery, and the cost of the system, considering the desired lifting capacity, remained within the client’s budget. The impact of this project on the client’s business or industry is significant. The newly installed crane system enables the client to handle the removal and installation of large or small mechanical components, facilitating faster and more efficient equipment repairs.

Conclusion

The 7 Ton TRSG Crane + Runway project successfully delivered a safe and efficient solution for the client’s mechanical repair needs. The collaboration among the project team, along with the strategic decision-making process, ensured a successful outcome within the established timeline and budget. The project’s results and impact positively contribute the efficiencies of the client’s business, enabling them to streamline their equipment repair processes. By leveraging the experience gained from this project and applying any lessons learned, future manufacturing and installation projects can be further improved to meet and exceed client expectations.
